About Kaitlyn

Hello fellow foodies! I’m Kaitlyn.

What’s up with all this baking?                                                                                                  I’m a recent college graduate turned accountant who loves baking everything but especially cookies. I love getting lost in the obsession to perfect a recipe, and I get so much joy from sharing my baking with friends and family.

I grew up watching my mother and grandmother in the kitchen. I have always been fascinated by desserts and intrigued by how they were made. As you can see below, I loved making breakfast with dad, licking the bowl, and playing kitchen. One of my favorite toys as a kid was a fake hand mixer that I got for Christmas. Scan 730_Fotor_Collage

Why the blog?                                                                                                                                    I started this food blog after finishing my college applications in 2014. While writing my college essays, I continually found myself writing about food adventures in the kitchen to answer essay questions like “What was your proudest accomplishment that you did not receive recognition for?” Of course flipping a crêpe without a spatula was the answer they were looking for. Anyways, it was a strange feeling to actually enjoy writing college essays, so I decided to start a food blog with a similar writing style!IMG_3722

Other Stuff About Me.                                                                                                                      Other than baking, I have my Master’s in Accounting and am a licensed CPA. I’ve got a job in accounting that I enjoy, but it keeps me out of the kitchen more days than I’d prefer.

I was a competitive golfer through high school and now just play for fun, so when I’m not in the kitchen, I’m working on my short game and some real dorky tan lines!

I started casually running junior year of college as stress relief for school and life in general. As is typical with me, I got obsessed with my new hobby and have now run 3 half marathons and a full marathon.

I love traveling abroad and also am on quest to see as many National Parks as possible (15 so far!). I’ve written food suggestion posts about some of my destinations.

As you will see, I love both French Macarons and Coconut Macaroons, hate waiting for dough to chill, and refuse to skimp on the butter in baked goods! Come along on my culinary adventures and join in on the YUMMINESS

    Hi Kaitlyn,
Congratulations on your blog! I have always wanted to be good at baking but problem is I would eat all that yummy stuff. So I will follow your recipes vicariously and maybe my granddaughters and I can try some of them out together. It is a terrific way to bond, isn’t it?!
Your grandparents, Robert and Sue, are classmates and dear friends of mine from high school. (You look a combination of the two of them to me!) Sure miss them and wish they were not so far away. Please give them hugs from me!!
    Love to you, Nita

Thank you so much! I recognized your name from them talking about you!
Baking with my grandma is one of the things I love most when I visit! Last time I visited, we made that Bruschetta recipe, and it was very good! I’ll give them your hugs when I see them this summer!
I hope you enjoy baking with your granddaughters!
Thanks so much and please let me know if you have questions about any of my recipes!

Your Bewildered Brownies is the one I MUST try with my granddaughters, Ginny and Anne Warren. You had me at ‘fudgey’! My mom made the best fudge in the whole wide world, real old fashioned fudge. I can still remember walking in after school and that luscious smell. I will send you her recipe when I locate it.

    Kaitlyn,
I, too, was a classmate of Sue and Robert. I just made the Key Lime Cupcakes and, per my husband, they pass with flying colors!! Thanks so much for the blog. Next I will try the muffins with Nutella and banana. I make Banana/Mini Choco-chip muffins that are a favorite of my grandchildren.

I’m so glad you liked the cupcakes and my blog! The cupcakes take some work but are worth it! The Nutella banana muffins are really good too! Let me know how they turn out!

    Kaitlyn,
I made the muffins yesterday and we had some for breakfast this morning. Very good. But, next time I will need to swirl them more. I stuck the leftovers in the freezer – no way the two of us will eat them all.

I’m glad you liked them! The Banana-Nutella Muffin recipe does make a lot if you don’t have a crowd to feed but they should be good for a while if you freeze them!

Kaitlyn – I made the Peanut Butter Oreo Brownies for a club meeting last night – I had volunteered to furnish refreshments. I doubled the recipe for 20 people. They were a huge hit!!! Thanks for the recipe.

Well, I should have known that you would grow up to be a foodie (a beautiful one)! When you were 2, you would walk down to our house with your brother and sister, walk straight to our pantry, open the door and stare. I did intervene when you picked up Criso shortening bars and handed you marshmallows to eat instead! But then, maybe you wanted to bake something…… Congratulations on following your passion and starting a blog!

I still remember that! Your pantry was so much more fun than ours was! I hope the Northcut family is doing well!

      Daniel,
I’m glad you liked my blog! We are all missing Bandon, and it was so great having you caddy for us! I hope you had a good get-away for the 4th!
